COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore city police have announced a massive security deployment to ensure a peaceful and transparent counting of votes on May 4 (Monday). Nearly 4,000 police personnel will be stationed across the city, with the primary focus on the counting centre at the Government College of Technology (GCT) on the Thadagam Road.Following the conclusion of the Tamil Nadu assembly election, a three-tier security arrangement has been implemented at GCT. The innermost perimeter, guarding the strong rooms housing the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), is under the direct control of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF). The second and third layers are manned by the Tamil Nadu special police and armed reserve personnel, respectively.More than 300 CCTV cameras are active on the campus, providing round-the-clock surveillance monitored through a dedicated control room. In addition, the city police have banned drones and UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) in areas near GCT.A senior police officer stated that nearly 4,000 personnel, including Tamil Nadu special police and companies of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), would be deployed at various locations, including public gathering places, party offices and areas near GCT, to ensure peace during the counting of votes.
