Staying hot on Saturday in North Carolina, cooldown arriving soon

Date:

Hot North Carolina weather will soon come to an end | Big temp drop late weekend

Triad temperatures climb above 80 for seven straight days

LOCAL APP. AT THIS TIME, LET’S GET ANOTHER CHECK ON OUR WEATHER WITH METEOROLOGIST MICHELLE KENNEDY MICHELLE. WE WERE TALKING A LITTLE BIT EARLIER. WE ARE EXPECTING SOME MORE WARM WEATHER. THAT’S NOT A SURPRISE, BUT THERE’S GOING TO BE A SMALL BREAK IN THIS UPCOMING WEEKEND, RIGHT? YEAH. THAT’S RIGHT. WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO THAT. IT’S BEEN SUCH A HOT STRETCH. SEVEN DAYS OF TEMPERATURES IN THE 80S OR ABOVE. AND NOW WE’VE GOT TEMPERATURES DOWN TONIGHT TO 67 DEGREES IN WINSTON-SALEM, 72 IN GREENSBORO. WE MADE IT DOWN TO 64 IN BURLINGTON. SOME OF WHERE YOU’RE LOCATED WILL HELP DETERMINE YOUR TEMPERATURES RIGHT NOW, AND THE WIND SPEEDS AS WELL. WHERE YOU’VE GOT LOWER WINDS, YOU’RE COOLING DOWN A LITTLE BIT MORE QUICKLY. WE’VE ALSO HAD A COUPLE OF CLOUDS ROLLING THROUGH THAT HAS HELPED TO ALLEVIATE TEMPERATURES DROPPING TOO QUICKLY. NOW, TEMPERATURES THIS MORNING WERE DOWN TO 6284 FOR A HIGH OFFICIALLY IN GREENSBORO TYPICALLY 72. SO WE’RE STILL MORE THAN TEN DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. AND 48 DEGREES IS OUR TYPICAL MORNING LOW. TOMORROW MORNING WE START OFF ON A MILD NOTE. WE’RE STILL IN THE 50S TOMORROW, AND THEN 90 DEGREES IS A POSSIBILITY. WE’RE TALKING ABOUT THAT AS POTENTIAL FOR YOU GOING INTO TOMORROW AFTERNOON, 100TH OF AN INCH OF RAINFALL. THIS WAS JUST FROM FROM SOME SCATTERED RAIN ALONG THAT LITTLE BOUNDARY THAT ROLLED THROUGH EARLIER TODAY. NOW THE NEXT FRONT, THIS IS APPROACHING AS WE GET INTO YOUR SUNDAY MORNING BEFORE WE WAKE UP, THERE’S A BETTER CHANCE TO SEE SOME SHOWERS IN THE MOUNTAINS AND NORTHERN PIEDMONT. BUT ALL OF THIS STARTING TO ADVANCE RIGHT NOW WITH SEVERE WEATHER CONTINUING TO SPREAD EAST, IT DOES LOOK LIKE WE MIGHT HAVE 1 OR 2 STORMS IN THE MOUNTAINS LATE TOMORROW. BUT NOTICE A BEAUTIFUL START FOR THE HOKE RUN. FIVE K MUSIC IN THE PARK. THIS IS AT BAILEY PARK DOWNTOWN AND WINSTON-SALEM EARLY TOMORROW MORNING. I’LL BE THERE WITH YOU TOO TO KICK OFF THIS EVENT AND IT’S ONE OF MY FAVORITES EVERY YEAR AT TRELLIS. SUPPORTIVE CARES FOR EVENT. THEY ARE REALLY RAISING MONEY FOR THIS FREE COMMUNITY. GRIEF COUNSELING. ALSO CHARITABLE HOSPICE CARE. TEMPERATURES IN THE 60S ARE GOING TO SHOOT INTO THE 70S PRETTY QUICKLY DURING THE 9:00 HOUR, SO BE READY FOR A QUICK WARM UP. REMEMBER YOUR SHADES, A SUNGLASSES. YOU’LL NEED THEM UP UNTIL ABOUT MIDDAY, AND WE THEN START TO SEE THOSE CLOUDS ROLL IN. SO 90 DEGREES. THEN DOWN INTO THE 80S, LATE EVENING AND IT TAKES A WHILE TO GET US BACK DOWN FOR MORNING LOWS ON SUNDAY AS CLOUDS WILL BE IN PLACE, BUT THEN TEMPERATURES WILL START TO COOL FROM THE 70S INTO THE 60S DURING THE DAY ON SUNDAY. AND THAT’S BECAUSE WE HAVE RAIN CHANCES AND A COLD FRONT. BUT LOOK AT SATURDAY. JUST BEAUTIFUL OUT THERE. 54 DEGREES IN MOUNT AIRY. ELKIN YOU HAVE A LITTLE REFRESHING START. AND THEN MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES EARLY, BECOMING CLOUDY LATER IN THE DAY WITH THE RAIN CHANCE DEVELOPING FOR FOLKS IN THE MOUNTAINS AT A 20% CHANCE. AND THAT’S FOR FOLKS OUT IN AREAS OF THE WESTERN MOUNTAIN SLOPES. HERE’S A LOOK AT OUR HOUR BY HOUR FORECAST FOR LATE SATURDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING. A BETTER CHANCE TO SEE A COUPLE OF SPOTTY SHOWERS GETTING GOING AFTER MIDNIGHT THROUGH ABOUT 2 A.M. MIGHT HAVE SOME SCATTERED SHOWERS ALSO LIFTING THROUGH AS WE GO THROUGH WINSTON-SALEM AND GREENSBORO. REIDSVILLE AREA 5:06 A.M. THEN THROUGH 8:09 A.M. MAYBE WE’RE LUCKY ENOUGH TO GET A SHOWER OR TWO ON THE GROUND. AND THAT’S A GOOD QUESTION. WE MAY HAVE SOME OF THAT ENERGY REALLY ROLLING OUT SO QUICKLY TO THE NORTH THAT WE JUST CAN’T TAP INTO THAT RAIN AT THE SURFACE HERE AROUND THE PIEDMONT TRIAD. NOW YOU’VE GOT CLOUDS THAT WILL CLEAR OUT, BUT TEMPERATURES COOL DOWN IN RESPONSE TO THAT COLD FRONT. SO WE DO HAVE A MILDER TREND GOING INTO YOUR SUNDAY. IT’S GOING TO FEEL REALLY REFRESHING AFTER SUCH A HOT STRETCH. YOU CAN SEE HERE WIND GUSTS TO START TO COME UP FROM 6 A.M. ON YOUR SUNDAY, ALL THE WAY THROUGH YOUR EVENING HOURS. WE’VE GOT SOME 15 TO 25 MILE AN HOUR WINDS. BUT NOTICE IN THE FOOTHILLS COULD BE EVEN STRONGER. THERE. SUSTAINED WIND SPEEDS 10 TO 20, BUT THOSE GUSTS WILL BE STRONG ALSO FOR THE MOUNTAINS COULD BE AS HIGH AS 45 MILE AN HOUR. GUSTS AND SUSTAINED WINDS 10 TO 25. SO A BREEZY SUNDAY AND THOSE RAIN CHANCES WILL CONTINUE TO BUILD. WE’LL TALK MORE ABOUT IT. SEVEN DAY FORECAST STRETCHES OUT LIKE THIS. SUNSHINE AND FOR YOUR EARTH DAY ON WEDNESDAY. HIGHS RETURN T

The sky is clearing after some early morning showers. Afternoon sunshine will warm temperatures into the 80s for the seventh consecutive day, even though temperatures will likely be a few degrees cooler this afternoon. Saturday will also be nice, but it will be far warmer than any April day should be. Saturday’s forecast high of 90 degrees may be the hottest day of our heatwave, and the hottest day of 2026. Beyond Saturday, we’re expecting big changes to our North Carolina weather pattern.
