Noida: A 21-year-old student died after he suddenly fell ill at a water park in Sector 38A on Tuesday afternoon. According to police, the post-mortem report indicates the student died of a cardiac event. The family alleged that lifeguards at the water park did not provide medical attention on time, and police are investigating the claims.Drona Sharma, a resident of Greater Noida, was a graduate student pursuing a course in artificial intelligence from Meerut University. On Tuesday, he visited the water park with his family. He suddenly fell ill while in the pool with his relatives.According to one of Sharma’s relatives, the two were in the pool together when the symptoms began, and he helped Sharma out of the pool. Sharma allegedly told family members he was feeling unwell and could not breathe properly. He fell unconscious soon after. When the family tried to flag down the lifeguard for help, they were initially ignored, the relative alleged.“The lifeguard would not even look in our direction. When he did, he strolled over calmly, even after seeing him lying down. The lifeguard just stood there while we tried to provide Drona with an oxygen pump and administer CPR, which we did not really know how to do,” he claimed.The staff eventually arranged for medical assistance, and an ambulance rushed Sharma to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.While the family has not filed a police complaint in the matter so far, an investigation has been initiated to check possible negligence on the staff’s part.Police said they are examining CCTV footage from the water park to understand the sequence of events and rule out any negligence or suspicious circumstances. Viscera samples have also been preserved for further examination.“All allegations made by the family will be thoroughly investigated,” an officer added.Police said that Sharma’s post-mortem report, which was released on Wednesday, indicated he had an enlarged heart and suffered a cardiac event. With the pool being barely 4 feet deep, drowning has been deemed unlikely as well, police added.
