Pingla in Paschim Medinipur district is currently represented by Ajit Maity of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly. In the 2021 election, he secured 1,12,435 votes, defeating BJP’s Antara Bhattacharya, who polled 1,05,779 votes, giving him a winning margin of 6,656. Key issues in this largely rural, agrarian constituency include dependence on paddy and potato cultivation, demand for assured irrigation, and better farm‑gate prices for small and marginal cultivators. Road connectivity between villages and markets, upgrading government schools and health centres, and controlling seasonal out‑migration for work are recurring concerns noted in district‑level livelihood assessments. Pingla is a general (non‑reserved) seat under the Ghatal Lok Sabha constituency, represented by TMC MP Deepak Adhikari (Dev), who retained the parliamentary seat in 2024 with a margin of over 1.8 lakh votes, reinforcing Trinamool’s organisational edge across this belt. Historically, the area was a stronghold of the Democratic Socialist Party (Prabodh Chandra), before a decisive shift to TMC from 2016 onwards, marking a significant change in Left‑of‑centre rural politics here.
