No injuries were reported, and Toledo police said it is sweeping the area.
TOLEDO, Ohio — Visitors were evacuated from the Toledo Zoo Friday morning after the zoo received a bomb threat, according to Toledo police. No one was injured, and no one is in custody at this time.
By noon, Toledo police told WTOL 11 it had rendered the area safe, and that no one was in custody. It also re-confirmed that no one was injured.
A Toledo police spokesperson told WTOL 11 that the zoo received a call for a bomb threat, as well as possible shots fired around 10:30 a.m. The zoo was evacuated, and nothing has been found at this time. No shooters were found, nor were any bombs located.
Toledo police said school buses and students were evacuated safely. Evacuations went smoothly, TPD said.
When asked about a bomb threat at the Louisville Zoo, which the Kentucky zoo posted about to its Facebook Friday, TPD said it was focused on the Toledo Zoo at this time.
TPD’s bomb squad was also dispatched to the scene and is sweeping the entire zoo. TPD said it could not give a specific number of people who were evacuated.
The spokesperson added the zoo will remain closed until further notice.
Toledo Public Schools said it is waiting for an update from the zoo to know whether it can still hold Start High School’s prom night at the zoo Friday night, which is where it was intended to be held.
As of 11 a.m., Toledo police cruisers were blocking the Anthony Wayne Trail entrance to the zoo. Traffic on the trail came to a standstill by 11:15 a.m.
WTOL 11 observed two TFRD vehicles by the Broadway entrance around 11:15 a.m.
