LUCKNOW: A CBI court in Lucknow on Saturday convicted Jishan Khan and sentenced him to 10 years in prison along with a fine of Rs 9,000 in connection with the 2015 culpable homicide of Inspector Anil Kumar, then SHO of Kotwali police station in Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh.According to an official release, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took over the probe on June 29, 2018, following a May 23, 2018 order by the Allahabad High Court’s Lucknow Bench in the Arti Gujar vs State of UP case. The case pertained to Crime No. 1081/2015 registered at Kotwali City police station, Pratapgarh, under Section 302 IPC against unknown persons.After completing the investigation, the CBI filed a chargesheet against two accused — Jishan Khan and Bocha alias Raju Soni.The court took cognisance of the offences on February 22, 2021, and framed charges against both accused on December 14, 2022.During the trial, Jishan Khan submitted a writaten application on April 4 confessing to the offence. His case was separated from the main trial on April 10 and registered as a new case (No. 574/2026).Based on the evidence on record and the accused’s confessional statement, the Special Judge, CBI, Lucknow, in an order dated May 2, convicted Jishan Khan and awarded the sentence.(With agency inputs)
