Geethagopi of CPI secures Nattika, a Kerala constituency reserved for Scheduled Castes with 7093 votes, beating INC candidate Sunil Laloor.Designated as a Scheduled Caste reserved seat in Kerala’s Thrissur district along the Arabian Sea coast, the Nattika Assembly constituency ranks 68th among the state’s 140 legislative seats, contributing to the Thrissur Lok Sabha region. This SC seat draws over 200,000 voters from coastal fishing communities with significant Dalit populations around 15per cent, achieving turnouts near 76-77per cent, and spans Nattika grama panchayat alongside Edakkazhiyur and other coastal panchayats in central Kerala’s littoral belt.It reinforces CPI’s consistent LDF dominance, prioritizing fisherfolk welfare against UDF’s Congress challenges in this maritime-rural enclave. In the 2021 Kerala Assembly elections, CPI’s C.C. Mukundan secured victory with 61,912 votes at 40.27per cent, defeating BJP’s Lojanan Ambatt’s 33,481 votes (21.78per cent) by 28,431 votes amid 153,554 voters. The 2016 contest saw CPI’s Geetha Gopi triumph with 57,289 votes (38.11per cent), outpacing BDJS’s T.V. Babu’s 30,512 votes (20.32per cent) by 26,777 votes from 150,512 participants, maintaining LDF’s hold after gaining from INC in 2011. Approaching 2026, Nattika’s CPI lineage since 2011, anchored in tsunami rehabilitation, coastal protection, and SC upliftment, faces UDF resurgence and BJP’s fisher vote outreach.Sea erosion defenses and marine livelihoods will dominate discourse, positioning this LDF coastal bastion as a key player in Thrissur’s electoral dynamics.
