Following his portrayal of the heroic President Whitmore in 1996’s Independence Day, Bill Pullman earned his seat at the table of Hollywood’s most notable actors.
Across the decades, the now 72-year-old star went on to play various roles which would only add to his illustrious acting credentials, including Lone Starr in Spaceballs, the romantic lead in While You Were Sleeping, and Dr James Harvey in the live-action adaptation of Casper.
Aside from winning on-screen, in his personal life, Bill became a father of three children whom he welcomed with his wife of over 35 years, Tamara Hurwitz. The couple first met when they starred opposite one another as husband and wife in Moliere’s Impromptu at Versailles.
After tying the knot in 1987, they became a family of five, raising Maesa, Jack and Lewis to follow in their starry footsteps. Let’s meet the children who are busy carving out their own careers in Hollywood, one with the help of a very famous partner…
Maesa Pullman
Born in 1988, Maesa is Bill’s only daughter and was gifted with musical talents from a young age. She attended Hampshire College and first realised she could sing aged 12.
She went on to start a community choir called the Band of Singers in 2017, and released her own debut album three years later, titling it ‘Death of the Machine’. Her brother Lewis played drums for some of her tracks, and Jack played the saxophone, making the recording process a real family affair.
Commenting on her musical talents, she told Mass Live in 2006: “I was 12 and in this hotel elevator singing Patsy Cline’s ‘Walking After Midnight’, and it sounded really good. I was like ‘Damn, I sound really good.'”
Her dad also weighed in on her abilities, revealing in 2021: “My oldest daughter is a singer, musician, songwriter. She’s a teacher. She leads an alternative community choir kind of thing, and she’s amazing.”
Bill’s daughter married her husband, Jason Hiller, on 22 June 2019 and welcomed two children with him, a son, Rovan and a second son, Syver.
Jack Pullman
Bill and Tamara welcomed their eldest son, Jack, in 1989. Now in his late 30s, Jack pursued a career as a puppet and mask designer, leading his father to gush that he is “so creative”.
Jack updates his social media followers with videos and pictures of his work and shares behind-the-scenes of his time spent with the theatre collective, Rogue Artists Ensemble, in Los Angeles.
Speaking about his child, Bill revealed: “The middle son makes puppets and masks, and even that ended up being something he can make his way with, and he’s so creative. He’s a little bit like Halston to me on the things he makes and his thinking processes. It’s been pretty impressive.”
In May 2025, Jack married poet and visual artist Romy Lightman and became a first-time parent to their daughter Willow Mina Serphina Blossom Pullman last October.
Lewis Pullman
Taking after his dad, Lewis was born in 1993 and is a successful actor, having appeared in plenty of Hollywood’s big films.
He made a name for himself, starring in Top Gun: Maverick, Bad Times at the El Royale, and most recently, in the MCU’s Thunderbolts.
Lewis revealed how his dad’s career helped him navigate the world of showbiz when he told People magazine: “He knows what gets me excited, what makes me nervous, what scares me, and then he also has so much experience in the business and with the craft. So all of his advice is catered towards me. I don’t know where I’d be at without it.”
Aside from rising the ranks of Hollywood, Lewis also made headlines after he was linked to model and daughter of Cindy Crawford, Kaia Gerber.
The couple started dating in January 2025, and during an appearance on the Therapuss with Jake Shane podcast, Kaia said “a lot is being healed” in her relationship with Lewis.
She added: “I really feel like if you have the opportunity to date a friend, do it, because it just is so much better. I would never want to fight with my friends. I never want to be mad at my friends. I respect my friends. It just is a whole other thing.”
