Dubai has introduced new number plates for motorcycles and e-bikes used in corporate delivery services, requiring both front and rear plates. The rule takes effect at the end of December and will be implemented gradually during licence renewals. Private motorcycles are not affected. The plates will feature a gold background with black lettering and a code ‘9’ to identify delivery vehicles. They will be issued under a unified number during new licences, renewals, or in cases of loss or damage. The regulation covers parcel and document delivery, order management, digital platform deliveries, and related rental services.Ahmed Mahboob, CEO of the RTA’s Licensing Agency, said the move aims to enhance road safety, improve delivery operations, and strengthen traffic discipline, reflecting the rapid growth of the delivery sector. The initiative follows collaboration between the RTA and Dubai Police, including lane restrictions for delivery motorcycles. Riders are banned from using the two fast lanes on roads with five lanes or more and the leftmost lane on roads with three or four lanes. Roads with two lanes or fewer have no restrictions. This measure is part of Dubai’s wider strategy to regulate the delivery sector, ensure safer roads, and align with international best practices.
