NEW DELHI: Home minister Amit Shah will on Friday virtually inaugurate the National IED Data Management System (NIDMS) — a platform for storing, collating and disseminating improvised explosive device-related data for use in post-blast investigations and analytics — at the National Security Guard (NSG) Garrison in Manesar near Gurugram. “NIDMS is a secure, national-level digital platform developed by NSG’s National Bomb Data Centre for systematic collection, collation and dissemination of IED-related data, supporting post-blast investigations and a common data-driven understanding among state police, Central armed police forces (CAPFs) and Central agencies,” according to an NSG spokesperson. Shah will address the inauguration ceremony via virtual mode. A short film on functioning of NIDMS will be screened at the event. NIDMS is expected to enhance coordination among agencies by providing a centralised database of IED incidents, trends and technical details, thereby improving preparedness and response capabilities. NSG, raised in 1984, is the country’s premium counter-terrorism crack force, comprising highly-trained ‘Black Cat’ commandos to carry out counter-terrorist and counter-hijack operations. They also handle the security detail of a few select high-risk individuals.
