Chatra: In a step towards developing Chatra as an organic district, DC Kirtishiree G on Thursday inaugurated an organic resource centre at Karma village in Mayurhand block. The centre aims to promote organic farming and empower women through livelihood generation.Addressing the gathering, the DC said the organic resource centre is an initiative towards making women self-reliant. She said, “Women’s groups would be further strengthened through training on the schemes such as the mid-day meal programme to create sustainable employment opportunities. This model will be replicated across the district to establish Chatra as an organic district.”After the inauguration, the DC also inspected the centre and reviewed various organic products being prepared, including bio-fertilisers, aloe vera juice, jeevamrit, vermicompost and plant-based pesticides. Members of the women’s group said the use of organic manure improves soil fertility, reduces dependence on chemical fertilisers and lowers input costs for farmers.
