AIBE 21 syllabus 2026: All India Bar examination is a post enrolment examination that is intended to be taken by law graduates who have already enrolled with a State Bar Council. The AIBE is also different as compared to law school examinations, which are based on theoretical knowledge, which examines the ability of the candidates to put the principles of law to practical use.The examination was introduced to promote professionalism in the legal fraternity, but in essence, it is a quality check to the advocates joining the fraternity. Those who pass the test are issued the Certificate of Practice by the Bar Council of India and they are allowed to practise in any court around the nation.

AIBE 2026 exam pattern

The format of the AIBE examination has also remained mostly similar. The test is conducted in multiple-choice question (MCQ) format; it deals with core areas of law that are taught in Indian law schools.The main features of the examination pattern are:

  • Examination mode: Computer based or Offline (as announced by BCI)
  • Duration: 3 hours 30 minutes
  • Total questions: 100
  • Form of questions: Multiple choice questions.
  • Marks per question: 1 mark
  • Negative marking: None

Since, incorrect answers are not penalized, the candidates would be motivated to answer all questions.

AIBE 2026 Syllabus

The syllabus broadly mirrors the core subjects taught during the three-year and five-year LLB programmes in India. Candidates are expected to demonstrate a basic understanding of the following areas:

The emphasis is not on complex theoretical interpretation but on practical application and basic conceptual clarity.

AIBE passing criteria

The Bar Council of India has prescribed minimum qualifying marks for the examination:

  • General and other categories: 45%
  • SC/ST/OBC categories: 40%
