The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has issued a notification outlining revisions in the syllabus for selected subjects in Classes 11 and 12 for the upcoming academic session. The board clarified that the syllabus for Classes 9 and 10 will remain unchanged for the current academic cycle.According to the notice released on the official JKBOSE website, modifications apply only to a limited number of subjects. Class 11 Punjabi and Physical Education, along with Class 12 Education and Environmental Science, will follow updated courses of study. All other subjects for these classes will continue under the existing syllabus framework.Notification outlines syllabus structure across academic zonesThe board informed students, schools, and other stakeholders about the applicable syllabus for the coming academic sessions across different administrative zones. It stated that the courses of study for Classes 9 and 10 will remain the same for the academic session 2025–26 in the Kashmir Division and the winter zone areas of the Jammu Division.The same syllabus will also remain in force for the academic session 2026–27 in the summer zone areas of the Jammu Division. JKBOSE indicated that no academic alterations have been introduced for these classes during the specified periods.For Classes 11 and 12, the board confirmed that the syllabus and course structure remain unchanged except for the four subjects identified in the notification. Punjabi and Physical Education in Class 11, and Education and Environmental Science in Class 12, will follow the revised syllabus prepared by the board.Examination papers to follow revised subjectsJKBOSE stated that question papers for regular candidates and fresh private candidates appearing in the annual session examinations will be prepared in line with the revised syllabus for the affected subjects. This adjustment will apply to the examination cycle scheduled later in the academic timeline.The annual examinations are planned for October–November 2026 in the Kashmir Division and winter zone areas of the Jammu Division. For the summer zone areas of the Jammu Division, the examinations are scheduled to take place in February–March 2027.Board directs private schools to implement prescribed curriculumSeparately, JKBOSE has issued a circular directing all affiliated private schools in the Jammu Division to strictly follow the curriculum and textbooks prescribed by the board for Classes 1 to 12. The instruction also reiterates the earlier circulars and notifications issued by the Director Academics on the mandatory adoption of the JKBOSE curriculum.The board cited the provisions of the Jammu & Kashmir Board of School Education Act, 1975, and the J&K School Education Rules, 2010, which mandate the adoption of the prescribed syllabus/textbooks by the affiliated institutions.JKBOSE warned that deviation from the board’s academic instructions would attract disciplinary action, including the imposition of penalties under the board’s regulations. It also stated that inspection teams may visit affiliated private schools in the Jammu Division to verify whether the prescribed curriculum and textbooks are being implemented.
