Roughly, according to the American Heart Association Journals, 23% of adults in the US have varicose veins and if smaller veins are included up to 85% of the women and 85% of men are affected.
In their research, the researchers at AHA identified two cases of varicose veins:
A 38 year old women, six months postpartum after her third child, reported an issue of bluish, itchy veins and burning sensation in her knees, upon cross examination, the study revealed obesity and prominent reticular veins along the lateral thighs and behind the knees.
Next, was also a woman, 58 year old, had painful, rope-like veins in her legs. She reported feeling heaviness and itching, and upon physical examination, doctors confirmed she had varicose veins along the right lower leg and left thigh.
