NEW DELHI: Singer-rapper Badshah has received a death threat allegedly issued by members linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, days after his latest song ‘Tateeree’ sparked controversy over its lyrics.A purported Facebook post attributed to individuals associated with jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi warned the rapper of violent consequences, referring to an earlier incident at a nightclub owned by him.“Singer Badshah, you have tried to ruin the culture of Haryana. We showed you the trailer in your club in 2024; next time we will shoot you directly in head,” the post read. The threat comes as the rapper faces scrutiny over the Haryanvi music video Tateeree, which has been accused of containing objectionable references to women and minors. On Saturday, the Haryana state commission for Women directed police to arrest the singer after he failed to appear before the panel within the given deadline.Commission chairperson Renu Bhatia had earlier warned that strict action would follow if Badshah did not present himself before the commission by 3pm on Friday. The panel had issued a notice on 6 March asking him to appear in Panipat over complaints regarding the lyrics and visuals of the song. The threat also references a 2024 incident when low-intensity explosions occurred outside two nightclubs in Sector 26. One of the venues was owned by Badshah.Hours after the blasts, gangster Goldy Brar — a close associate of Lawrence Bishnoi — claimed responsibility through a Facebook post.Police said the explosions, believed to have been caused by crude bombs, resulted in limited damage and no injuries. Investigators said two men on a motorcycle threw the devices outside the clubs at around 3.14am, damaging a glass door. CCTV footage captured the incident, officials said.
