Oscars 2026: Conan O’Brien and Alexandre Singh take a jab at Timothee Chalamet for ballet-opera comment
Timothée Chalamet faced playful jabs at the Oscars regarding his recent comments on ballet and opera. Comedian Conan O’Brien humorously warned of potential backlash from the arts communities, while director Alexandre Singh subtly referenced theater and ballet in his acceptance speech, sparking mixed audience reactions. Chalamet, nominated for two awards, attended the ceremony with Kylie Jenner.

Timothee Chalamet’s comment about ballet and opera has been the talk of the town lately. The actor has made headlines over the past few days, as many people have come forward to comment on the same issue. This topic seems to have followed him to the Oscars this year as multiple people took a jab at the ‘Marty Supreme’ actor while he attended the event with beau Kylie Jenner.

Conan O’Brien teases Timothee Chalamet over opera/ballet comment

One of the few people to take a jab at Chalamet was none other than comedian and host for the Oscars 2026, Conan O’Brien. During the award show, O’Brien started the event on a light note and joked about a number of things to keep the spirits high. One of these jokes included Chalamet’s comment. During one of his segments, the comedian said, “Security is extremely tight tonight, I’ve just got to mention that. I’m told there are concerns about attacks from both the opera and ballet communities. They’re just mad you left out jazz.” The comment made laughter erupt from the audience. Even Chalamet, who was shown on screen soon after the comment, was seen smiling and nodding along.

Alexandre Singh also takes a turn at Timothee Chalamet

Alexandre Singh, the director of ‘Two People Exchanging Saliva,’ also took time to comment on the actor’s comment. When he got on stage to accept his award for Best Live Action Short, he made sure to throw some shade at the actor’s words from last week. During his speech, he commented, “That is why we make films, isn’t it? Because we believe that art can change people’s souls. Maybe it takes ten years, but we can change society through art, through creativity – through theater and ballet – and also cinema. Thank you so much.” The speech was met with mixed responses, some people were heard cheering after he finished, while there were also some “boos” from the crowd.

About Timothee Chalamet

This year at the Oscars, Chalamet was nominated for best actor and best picture, but he was unable to take any statues home that night. Michael B. Jordan won the Best Actor category for his dual role in ‘Sinners,’ while ‘One Battle After Another’ took home the Best Picture title.
