Elliot Cadeau set to return to Michigan Basketball for 2026-27 season

Date:

The good news keeps coming for the Michigan men’s basketball program ahead of its Elite Eight matchup with Tennessee on Sunday afternoon. Per a report from Chris Balas of The Wolverine ($), point guard Elliot Cadeau will be coming back for his senior season.

Cadeau joined Michigan’s program last offseason after two up-and-down seasons at North Carolina. He was a five-star recruit in the Tar Heels’ 2023 class.

Cadeau has enjoyed a breakout season playing on one of the nation’s best teams. As the starting point guard, he’s logged 26.9 minutes per game, 10.3 points and 5.7 assists per game. His three-point shooting has become a bigger weapon this season, as he’s currently shooting a career-best 37.5 percent from beyond the arc.

He is also coming off one of his best games of the year against Alabama and has turned it on for the Wolverines down the stretch, especially in the absence of L.J. Cason, who’s been sidelined with an ACL injury for the last month.

Cadeau and freshman guard Trey McKenney are now both set to return to Michigan for next season, giving Dusty May and the Wolverines a starting backcourt that should be one of the best in the Big Ten next season. Supplementing the roster with wings and big men through the transfer portal will be key as Michigan looks to assemble the best team possible for next year. Of course, Aday Mara and Morez Johnson Jr. could return as well, but both also have a chance of going in the first round of the NBA Draft should they choose to go pro.

For now, though, Cadeau and the Wolverines will look to continue their NCAA Tournament run by potentially locking up a spot in the Final Four for the first time since 2018.
