Delivery Man Dies in Dumka Accident: Overloaded Bamboo Carrier Blamed | Ranchi News

Dumka: A young delivery man died after his vehicle collided with an overloaded bamboo-laden makeshift three-wheeler carrier vehicle at Veer Kunwar Singh Chowk in Dumka late on Sunday. He was identified as Rahul Das (24), a resident of Mochipara.Rahul stepped out of his house late Sunday night following a call from a friend. Family members were informed of the incident around 4:30 am on Monday.“He got married recently, and his wife is pregnant. He was scheduled to travel to Kolkata with her on Monday, but fate had other plans,” Rahul’s brother Mukesh said, alleging that police arrived at the scene long after the accident and merely transported him to the hospital and left.“Timely treatment was not initiated at the hospital, which could have saved his life,” he claimed.Enraged locals also blocked the road near Durga Sthan on Jail Road, demanding strict action against the culprits. The road blockade, however, was lifted after administrative interference and assurances of suitable compensation to the victim’s family.District transport officer (DTO) Mritunjay Kumar admitted the indiscriminate use of such makeshift vehicles in the city for transportation of grocery and other items without any registration with the department.“It’s a pan India phenomenon. I will convene a meeting with the district chamber of commerce pertaining to the matter so that this menace can be curbed,” Kumar told the TOI.
