MEERUT: A 21-year-old woman allegedly drugged 11 members of her family, including four children under the age of 10, before eloping with her lover just days ahead of her wedding scheduled for April 5 in Amroha district. All three accused have been arrested and remanded to judicial custody after being produced before a court, police said on Wednesday.According to the complaint, the incident took place in the Amroha Dehat area on the night of March 29. The accused, Nargis, along with her lover Mohd Rizwan (24), a carpenter, and his associate Junaid Khan, allegedly procured intoxicants and mixed them into food served to family. When the household, expected to be abuzz with wedding preparations, fell silent late into the night, neighbours grew suspicious and entered the house, only to find family members lying in a semi-conscious state. They were taken to a district hospital, where some were in critical condition, police said.Circle officer Avadhbhan Singh Bhadauria said, “The woman had been in a relationship with Rizwan for eight to nine years. As her family had arranged her marriage with another man, she decided to elope with her lover after drugging her family. Medical examination has confirmed the use of intoxicants.”A case under BNS sections 87 (abduction to compel marriage) and 123 (causing hurt by administering poison or intoxicants), has been filed officials added.
