The moment unfolds on a new episode of “Talk With Flee.”
We were today years old when we found out that JAY-Z and Kanye West’s “Otis” might contain subliminal shots aimed at Cam’ron. On the latest episode of “Talk With Flee,” titled “Don’t Have a Baby in California,” the Harlem rapper and host offered a hilarious and pretty convincing analysis of why he thinks some of Hov’s lyrics were actually directed at him.
During the show, Cam’s co-host, Sen City, asked if there was ever a moment when he felt JAY-Z subliminally mentioned him, to which the artist responded, “One time.” He explained, “I think it was me, Jim [Jones]… It was a bunch of us. We had said some slick s**t about Kanye [West] one time — I forget what it was — but I remember we said something about Kanye. And then, Kanye did the song with JAY-Z. That first single for their album together,” referring to 2011’s Watch the Throne.
Cam’ron went on to discuss the single by describing the Back to the Future-esque car from the music video. After finally landing on the correct song title, “Otis,” Killa said that the track came out “a month or two” after their comments about Ye.
Which JAY-Z lyrics does Cam’ron believe were shots at him on “Otis”?
In the third verse of “Otis,” JAY-Z notably rapped, “Uh, live from the Mercer / Run up on Yeezy the wrong way, I might murk ya / Flee in the G450, I might surface / Political refugee, asylum can be purchased.” For anyone familiar with Cam’ron, Flee is obviously his nickname, and as the Confessions of Fire artist mentioned earlier in the episode, he “had distribution through Asylum Records at that time.”
“So, this is the part where it might’ve been, like you said, a [subliminal], but you can’t prove it,” Cam’ron shared. Freekey Zekey then joked, “N**ga ain’t s**t. He’s slick,” before Sen chimed in, “Yeah, he’s slick. You just never know.”
