Star rookie gets the ball after impressive season debut

Date:

After a 5-2 home opener win on Friday, the Boston Red Sox will trot out the same lineup for Saturday afternoon’s game.

Rookie left-hander Connelly Early has the ball. He impressed in his season debut last weekend in Cincinnati, where he held the Reds to one earned run on five hits, two walks and struck out six in 5 1/3 innings.

“I think Connelly earned the right to start,” manager Alex Cora said Saturday morning. “He had a great offseason. He was outstanding in Fort Myers (during spring training), and he was good in the first one. So we expect him to go out there every five days and perform.”
