'Politics needs commitment': BJP chief Nitin Nabin on TVK's Vijay; predicts 'surprising' results in Tamil Nadu

NEW DELHI: BJP national president Nitin Nabin on Thursday questioned the practicality of a hypothetical alliance with actor-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) and asserted that the saffron party remains firmly aligned with its existing ally, the AIADMK.“I believe he (referring to Vijay) is trying politics for the first time. I wish him well, but politics requires full-time commitment. It is too early to say anything about Vijay ji right now. Glamour may draw people, but stability comes only with time spent on the ground. We already have an alliance with the AIADMK and are working together,” Nabin told ANI in an exclusive interview.

He reiterated that politics demands “complete dedication.”“In politics, you have to be fully committed. Everything depends on how much time he devotes on the ground. Why should we form an alliance with him? We are already aligned with the AIADMK,” said Nabin, who succeeded Union health minister JP Nadda as BJP chief in January. The former Bihar MLA, a surprise choice to lead the saffron party, also expressed confidence in the BJP’s alliance with the AIADMK, saying the results in Tamil Nadu would be “surprising.”“The results in Tamil Nadu will surprise you. The corruption of the DMK and its appeasement politics will get a strong response from the people. The NDA will form the government in Tamil Nadu. There are clear signs of change,” the 45-year-old leader stated. The BJP reunited with the AIADMK, led by former Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, in April last year after parting ways ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Both parties failed to win a single seat in the southern state, which sends 39 members to the Lok Sabha.Under their seat-sharing arrangement, the BJP is set to contest 27 seats in Tamil Nadu. All 234 assembly constituencies in the state will vote on April 23, with counting scheduled for May 4.Vijay, who launched TVK in February 2024, has described the ruling DMK as his political rival and the BJP as an ideological adversary.
