The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) said that it destroyed an underground infrastructure used by the Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah in southern Lebanon. According to an IDF statement, troops from the 13th Battalion, operating under the 7th Brigade, carried out the mission in coordination with the Yahalom Unit, a specialised combat engineering unit. IDF reported that it located and searched the underground site before dismantling it, describing the infrastructure as being used by Hezbollah operatives to prepare attacks against Israeli troops. The video released by the IDF on X appears to show explosions and what it presents as underground infrastructure. The military did not disclose the precise location or extent of the infrastructure but said that operations in southern Lebanon are ongoing.According to Lebanon’s Public Health Emergency Operation Centre, Israeli military actions since March 2 have resulted in 2,055 deaths and 6,588 injuries, with recent reports indicating 35 fatalities and 152 injuries in a single day. This escalation followed Hezbollah’s resumption of rocket attacks, prompting an intensified military campaign by Israel.Diplomatically, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani promised humanitarian aid to Lebanon during a call with President Joseph Aoun, while a US-Iran brokered ceasefire remains contested by Israel regarding its application to the Lebanese front.
