Alipurduars election result 2026: BJP's Paritosh Das defeats TMC's Suman Kanjilal by 70,420 votes

In West Bengal’s Alipurduars constituency, BJP’s Paritosh Das defeated TMC’s Suman Kanjilal by 70,420 votes. Das got 1,43,242 votes while Kanjilal got 72,822 votes.Alipurduars is a general (unreserved) constituency in Alipurduar district of West Bengal. In 2026, the candidates include Suman Kanjilal of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), Paritosh Das of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Mrinmoy Sarkar (Papan) of the Congress.In the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, the seat was won by Suman Kanjilal of the BJP, who defeated Sourav Chakraborty of the TMC by a margin of approximately 16,007 votes, securing over 1,07,000 votes in total. The result marked a clear victory in a constituency that had seen earlier representation by different parties.The constituency includes Alipurduar municipality, the railway junction, and several gram panchayats, lying close to the Bhutan border with a mix of urban and rural populations engaged in trade, services, agriculture, and informal economic activities. Key issues include infrastructure improvement, with calls for better roads, reliable public transport, improved drainage, and stable electricity supply. Residents also emphasise the need for enhanced healthcare services and quality educational facilities, with many travelling outside the constituency to access specialised care or higher education.The constituency went to polls on April 23, as part of Phase 1. Alipurduar district recorded a voter turnout of 93.2%.
