Anthony Davis Missed Call from Agent About Historic Contract Extension Because of This Hobby

Date:

Anthony Davis was building something else entirely while he was also building his wealth.

The Washington Wizards star power forward revealed to TODAY’s Craig Melvin that he initially missed his agent’s calls when he received his last two contract extensions, as well as the surprising reason why.

“What’s one hobby that you have that would surprise most people?” Melvin asked Davis on the April 28 episode of “Glass Half Full.”

I love to build Legos,” the basketball star said.

“You’re just layered,” Craig replied.

“It’s funny because my agent called me my last two extensions, and I wasn’t answering the phone,” Davis recalled. “He was like, ‘Man, you just got paid the highest extension in NBA history, and I can’t get ahold of you.’ ‘I’m sorry, I was building Legos. I apologize.’”

Davis, who was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2012 NBA draft by the-then New Orleans Hornets after he led the University of Kentucky to the national championship in his lone season there, said Legos are a serious matter to him,

“I build Legos. I have an entire collection of Legos. I love to build Legos,” he said.

The 14-year NBA veteran has not exactly kept his adoration for Legos a secret, either.

“My peace … where it’s just like I would listen to music and just be drifted off, it’s doing Legos,” he said on “The Backyard Podcast” in 2024.

In 2023, Davis, then with the Los Angeles Lakers, signed a three-year, $186 million maximum contract extension, the richest annual extension in NBA history, ESPN reported at the time.

Prior to that, in 2020, he re-signed with the Lakers on a five-year, $190 million contract. In 2015, Davis signed a five-year, $145 million contract extension with the Pelicans.

After beginning his career with the Hornets (who changed their name to the Pelicans before the 2014-2015 NBA season), Davis was traded to the Lakers in 2019 and helped lead them to the NBA title the next season.

He battled injuries the next few seasons before he was traded to the Dallas Mavericks in 2025, in one of the league’s most blockbuster deals that sent Luka Dončić to the Lakers. This past February, Davis was traded again, to the Wizards.
