The Carolina Hurricanes made a significant off-ice announcement on Wednesday, confirming that three new investors have joined their ownership group. Tom Dundon retains majority ownership and will continue as lead governor.Meanwhile, Brett Jefferson, Marc Grandisson, and Bobby Farnham each hold minority ownership stakes in the franchise. What separates this expansion from any other routine business transaction is Farnham’s background.

Three New Faces Bring Business Power and Hockey Experience to the Hurricanes’ Ownership

Farham is a former professional hockey player who appeared in 67 career NHL games with the Penguins, Devils, and Canadiens. He also brings a direct connection to the game that gives the Hurricanes’ ownership group a genuine and distinctive edge.Dundon was direct about what drove the decision. “Brett, Marc, and Bobby are accomplished business executives whose experiences and knowledge will help us continue to grow our team’s success and impact in the Triangle,” he said. Jefferson already lives in Durham, North Carolina, while Grandisson will soon relocate to Raleigh from Canada. Dundon pointed to Farnham’s playing background as a key asset. “As a former NHL player, Bobby is uniquely positioned to help our ownership group as we move forward,” he said. That perspective brings something to the ownership table that business credentials alone simply cannot replicate. Jefferson is the Founder, President, and Co-Chief Investment Officer of Hildene Capital Management, a firm specializing in structured finance investments with more than 30 years of combined experience in the field. A Hurricanes season ticket member who lives in Durham, he remains actively involved in philanthropy and athletics. Grandisson is a retired Canadian executive best known for his long tenure at Arch Capital Group, where he served as Chief Executive Officer from March 2018 until his retirement in October 2024. Born and raised in Chicoutimi, Quebec, he holds degrees from Université Laval and the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Farnham’s post-playing career has been just as impressive. After retiring, he graduated from Harvard Business School and co-founded Fourth Line Capital, a private investment platform focused on real estate and direct investments. He also holds a stake in Market Basket, a prominent New England supermarket chain. All three new owners will be formally introduced to the media in Raleigh on March 18, ahead of the Hurricanes’ home game against the Penguins. The timing gives the organization a high-profile platform to present its expanded ownership group to a passionate home crowd. The Hurricanes have grown into one of the NHL’s most consistent franchises, building a legitimate contender in the Triangle while developing one of the league’s most passionate fan bases. Adding three accomplished investors sends a clear signal that Dundon’s ambitions for this organization run much deeper than the standings.
