PUNE: In a major boost to the research ecosystem, renowned scientist Kishore M Paknikar has been selected for the prestigious Prime Minister Professorship under the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF). As part of this scheme, Paknikar will utilize his outstanding scientific expertise to uplift the research ecosystem at COEP Technological University, Maharashtra through mentoring of young scientists, researchers, and students.The selection has been made based on the recommendations of the Expert Committee for the Prime Minister Professorship scheme. The honour recognises Paknikar’s outstanding scientific contributions and is aimed at strengthening advanced research, mentoring young scientists, researchers and students at the host institution.As part of the five year tenure, the Prime Minister Professorship will provide a monthly fellowship of Rs 2.5 lakh. In addition, an annual research grant of Rs 24 lakh and an overhead support of Rs 1 lakh per year will be provided, with the grant to be administered through COEP Technological University.The fellowship requires the awardee to relocate and join the host institution on a full time basis. The joining is encouraged within one month of the offer, with a possible extension up to three months in case additional time is needed for relocation. The professorship cannot be held alongside any other fellowship or position funded by Indian or international agencies.The appointment will be formally designated as ANRF Prime Minister Professor in all public and professional communications.
