NEW DELHI: The SC collegium led by CJI Surya Kant on Thursday recommended to the Centre the appointment of five high court judges as HC chief justices while deciding to transfer the CJ of Meghalaya to Kerala HC.The collegium, also comprising Justices Vikram Nath and J K Maheshwari, recommended appointment of Justice Manoj Kumar Gupta of Allahabad HC as Uttarakhand HC CJ. With the retirement of Justice G Narendar, the post had been vacant since Jan 9.It also recommended appointment of Bombay HC’s Justice Revati P Mohite as Meghalaya HC CJ. This will be consequent to implementation of the recommendation to transfer incumbent CJ Soumen Sen as Kerala HC CJ. Justice Sen’s transfer would be consequent to the retirement of Justice Nitin Jamdar on Jan 9.Another judge of Bombay HC, Justice M S Sonak, has been recommended for appointment as chief justice of Jharkhand HC, which would be effective after the retirement of incumbent CJ T S Chauhan on Jan 8.Kerala HC’s Justice A Muhamed Mustaque has been recommended for appointment as Sikkim HC CJ, while the collegium decided to recommend Justice Sangam K Sahoo of Orissa HC as Patna HC chief justice.
