POWELL, Ohio — The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium was evacuated Tuesday morning due to a reported potential active shooter threat, marking the second threat against the zoo this past week.

The zoo said it decided to evacuate all guests and staff out of an abundance of caution. The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office was notified immediately and is currently on site to help maintain a secured perimeter.
All guests, staff and animals are safe, according to the zoo.
In an update around 11:40 a.m., the zoo said the safety threat has been cleared.
The zoo said it will remain closed for the remainder of the day as authorities continue to assess the situation.
The Columbus Zoo also received a bomb and active shooter threat Saturday. Zoos in Akron, Toledo and Cleveland faced similar threats. Zoos in Denver and Louisville also received threatening phone calls but later resumed operations.
“The Zoo continues to work closely with law enforcement and follows established safety protocols in response to situations like this. We appreciate the swift response of our partners, as well as the cooperation of our guests and team members,” the release says.
