Crane topples at Mumbai’s BKC metro site during beam installation; workers injured, traffic disrupted | Mumbai News

MUMBAI: A crane toppled and a heavy girder collapsed at an under-construction metro site in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) near Diamond Market on Wednesday, triggering panic and major traffic disruptions. The incident occurred during the installation of a metro bridge beam when the crane reportedly lost balance, causing the structure to crash onto machinery below. No fatalities were reported, though several workers sustained injuries. Emergency teams rushed to the spot, cordoned off the area, and initiated rescue and clearance operations, while vehicular movement in the vicinity was diverted.MMRDA director Basavaraj MB stated, “Work is going on in full swing. This is line 2B, from D N Nagar to Mandale work, and there is a station called ILFS station at BKC (Bandra Kurla Complex). A precast element air action was planned last night. While lifting the gear, the crane failed due to a mechanical failure, and the load fell onto the other crane. We were using 2 cranes. The precast element fell down, and the operation was stopped immediately. We rushed to the site, called all the people, and brought another 600 metric ton crane to remove the existing element and the crane. No one has been injured here, and there are no accidents… We will conduct the inquiry… The company was J Kumar Infrastructure.”(With agency Inputs)
