Four repeat ganja offenders detained under Goondas Act in Madurai

Madurai: Four repeat offenders accused of ganja trafficking were detained under the Goondas Act in Madurai district on Saturday.The detainees were identified as Dinesh Kumar alias Nari, 25, Siddik Raja, 26, Tamim Ansari, 19, all from Othakadai, and Karthik, 37, of Jaihindpuram. Police said the four were involved in the illegal sale and distribution of ganja under the Othakadai police station limits.Based on the recommendation of Madurai district superintendent of police N Devanathan, district collector Nishant Krishna ordered their preventive detention under the Goondas Act. They have been lodged in prison.Police said the crackdown on drug trafficking would continue and warned that properties linked to drug offenders could also face legal action. They appealed to the public to share information on the storage, transport or sale of narcotic substances, assuring that the identity of informants would be kept confidential.
