“Good Morning America”’s Sam Champion Gives Update from His Hospital Bed After Undergoing Procedures at Heart Hospital

Sam Champion is on the mend after undergoing a procedure at the Mount Sinai Fuster Heart Hospital in New York City.

The 64-year-old Good Morning America weatherman updated his fans on Instagram, posting a photo of himself smiling and waving from his hospital bed.

“Thank you Dr. Lerakis and Dr.sharma and the WONDERFUL team of nurses at @mountsinaimedicalcenter Fuster Heart Hospital!” Champion captioned the photo.

Champion shared that a “nuclear stress test” led him to seek out medical help.

“Many of you know I had a nuclear stress test last Thursday. And we found some things that needed to be taken care of,” he wrote. “So today I went into the cardiac catheterization laboratory….. and we took care of it. Thanks to these procedures, I am well and expected to make a full recovery.❤️”

In the comments section, Champion got lots of love from his GMA colleagues.

“You know [I’m] here if you need anything at all! Speedy recovery on the way! ❤️” Robin Roberts, who recently visited Brazil with Champion and his husband, Rubem Robierb, commented on the post.

Today show weatherman Al Roker gave Champion a special shoutout, writing on the post, “Sam The Man. Glad you are on the mend, my friend.”

Champion didn’t clarify exactly what procedures he had done, but he did share in an Instagram Story, “A little work then back to normal.”

This isn’t the first time Champion has updated viewers on his health. In Oct. 2024, he shared that he underwent surgery for skin cancer treatment.

“While I can’t go back in time, these days we know more and I don’t leave home without putting on sunscreen,” Champion said on GMA at the time.
