Governor seeks student input on higher education

Ara: Governor-cum-chancellor of universities Syed Ata Hasnain on Friday visited the new campus of Veer Kunwar Singh University at Zero Mile in Ara for the first time and said feedback from students and teachers would play a key role in shaping higher education policies.Addressing students and faculty members at the university’s examination department auditorium, he said, “The policymaking should not remain confined to offices. Decisions will be based on the feedback of the students and the teachers. Several policy reforms are being introduced to improve the quality of higher education and their positive impact is expected to become visible within the next six months.”Emphasising holistic development, the governor urged students to focus on character building along with academic excellence. “Knowledge and character together make life successful,” he said. He also underlined that Raj Bhavan’s role extended beyond administration to guiding the state’s higher education system.Meanwhile, after the programme, students’ organisations staged protests outside the campus, demanding relaxation in the UGC guidelines requiring a minimum CGPA of 7.5 for four-year honours with research courses. Protesters waved black flags and later gathered outside the vice-chancellor’s chamber before being pacified by police and university officials.
