TIRUPUR: A sudden spell of strong winds accompanied by heavy rain and hail brought much-needed relief to residents in Tirupur on Saturday evening, following weeks of intense summer heat.After 3.30 pm, gusty winds swept across several parts of the city, followed by sharp spells of rain in areas including the central bus stand, Velliangadu, Palladam Road, Rayapuram and CTC Corner. The downpour, accompanied by thunder and lightning, continued for more than 30 minutes.The strong winds uprooted a huge neem tree in Kovil Vazhi Nagar 2nd Street. Sparks were reported from transformers, resulting in power outages in several areas. Hailstones fell in places such as Kovil Vazhi, Sevandampalayam and Chettipalayam.Two-wheeler riders faced difficulties navigating waterlogged roads. Traffic movement was affected in parts of the city.Residents welcomed the sudden change in weather, as the district had been reeling under scorching summer conditions for more than a month. The rainfall brought temperatures down, creating a cool and pleasant atmosphere in the city.
