On March 18, 2026, 89-year-old Hausabai Hanmantrao Lahade of Rui village in Maharashtra‘s Latur district became one of the biggest success stories of the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007, which was passed to protect the elderly.
A tribunal asked her grandnephew to return eight acres to Hausabai because he went back on his promise to take care of her. Hausabai transferred the land to her grandnephew only on the condition that he would take care of her in old age.
