Over the past four decades, UConn coach Geno Auriemma has set the standard in women’s college basketball by winning championships and developing his players to be some of the best in the WNBA.
Think Sue Bird, Paige Bueckers, Napheesa Collier, Maya Moore, Breanna Stewart and Diana Taurasi.
What Auriemma has done since being hired at UConn on May 17, 1985, is unmatched. He’s won a record 12 national championships.
Auriemma, 71, has racked up his share of accomplishments, winning two gold medals as coach of the United States women’s national team at the 2012 London and 2016 Rio Olympics.
Auriemma is also an eight-time national coach of the year, a 14-time Big East Conference coach of the year and has been inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame.
