PRAYAGRAJ: A major accident was averted after the loco pilot of the Banaras–Mumbai LTT Express applied emergency brakes on spotting an iron pipe lying on the tracks between Iradatganj and Link Station in UP.The train, which was travelling from Varanasi to Mumbai, was stopped at around 9pm on Tuesday after the obstruction was noticed, news agency PTI reported.The loco pilot immediately informed railway authorities about the incident.North Central Railway (NCR) chief public relations officer Shivam Sharma said the pipe appeared to have been thrown onto the tracks.He added that it was hollow and rusted, PTI reported.The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has registered a case against unidentified persons and launched an investigation.After the pipe was removed from the tracks, the train resumed its journey to Mumbai within a few minutes.(With agency inputs)
