Colorado Avalanche superstar Nathan MacKinnon doesn’t have a goal in two games thus far against the Los Angeles Kings.
But it’s certainly not something to fret about.
The Avs are up 2-0 in the series thanks to a pair of 2-1 wins at Ball Arena. Tuesday night was dramatic, going until nearly midnight before Avs forward Nicolas Roy was the hero in overtime.
Roy was able to get a slick backhanded shot past Kings goalie Anton Forsberg 7:44 into the OT session. Josh Manson ripped the initial shot on net and Roy cleaned up the rebound.
After the victory, Nathan MacKinnon was asked about Roy and gave a revealing answer about how the Avalanche will need to win in the postseason.

“He’s been awesome. I mean, he’s a great player. He’s a really smart player, awesome guy,” Nathan MacKinnon said of Roy.
The Avalanche acquired him from the Toronto Maple Leafs in a deal before the trade deadline, another key acquisition by GM Chris MacFarland. While Nazem Kadri’s return received all the headlines, don’t sleep on the Roy addition.
And later in the response from Mackinnon he expressed what it’s going to take for the Avs to earn 16 victories during the playoffs and hoist another Stanley Cup.
“(Roy) found a way to get it done. It might not be everyone’s first pick, but I mean it takes a full team to win in the playoffs and everyone’s been really good so far,” MacKinnon said.
To win four series there are always going to be unsung heroes. Think about what Darren Helm did in St. Louis during the team’s 2022 run to a championship. That’s the kind of moment Roy had on Tuesday.
While monster Nathan MacKinnon moments are certainly to come, it takes a village. And through two games Colorado is showing off the depth that ultimately makes them so dangerous.
