NBA sets dates for Spurs’ second-round playoff series

Date:

The NBA on Thursday announced the dates for the Spurs’ second-round playoff series.

No. 2 seed San Antonio, which vanquished the seventh-seeded Portland Trail Blazers in five games in the first round, will face the winner of the third-seeded Denver vs. sixth-seeded Minnesota series in the Western Conference semifinals. The Timberwolves can clinch the series with a win in Game 6 on Thursday night at the Target Center in Minneapolis.

The first two games of the second round will be played at the Frost Bank Center. Game 1, which will mark San Antonio’s first appearance in the conference semifinals since 2017, is set for Monday night. Game 2 will be Wednesday night.

The series shifts to the road for Game 3 (Friday, May 8) and Game 4 (Sunday, May 10).

If necessary, Game 5 will be Tuesday, May 12 in San Antonio.

Game 6, if needed, will be played on Friday, May 15 on the road.

Game 7, if necessary, will be May 17 at the Frost Bank Center.

No matter the opponent, at least one Spurs player can’t wait to get the series started.

“Personally, I want to play sooner,” forward Julian Champagnie said after practice Thursday. “The waiting game is not for me.

“But whatever happens, we don’t have any preferences (regarding the opponent). I don’t have any preferences. I think that no matter who we play, we’ll be ready for it. (Coach Mitch Johnson and his staff) will prepare us and we’ll go into that next series ready to play.”
