The Philadelphia Eagles were very quiet on the first day of the NFL’s negotiating window but the action has picked up since then. After signing multiple players on Tuesday evening, now the team is being linked to one of the top remaining free agents on the market: Trey Hendrickson.
The Eagles are one of multiple teams making offers to Hendrickson, according to a report from NFL insider Dianna Russini. She also mentions that the Indianapolis Colts and Baltimore Ravens are involved. UPDATE: Hendrickson has reportedly agreed to a four-year, $112 million contract with the Ravens. So, there goes that. (TBD if Baltimore backs out of this deal, too.)
Philly has an obvious need for a new edge rusher after losing Jaelan Phillips to the Carolina Panthers. The Eagles reportedly had interest in retaining Phillips but not to the point where it took them paying him $30 million per year.
Hendrickson’s price tag doesn’t figure to be cheap; he’s reportedly seeking $30 million per year as well. But he’s turning 32 this season and he’s coming off a hip/pelvis injury that caused him to finish the 2025 season on injured reserve. Hendrickson logged just four sacks in seven games played last year.
Prior to his down 2025, Hendrickson had produced a whopping 35 sacks over 34 games played in 2023 and 2024 combined. He had a run of four straight Pro Bowl seasons starting in 2021 and finished second in Defensive Player of the Year voting in 2024. That’s the upside the Eagles are interested in.
It’ll be very interesting to see if the Eagles are able to get something done. If not, they’ll need to look elsewhere to boost their pass rush. Could they engage the Las Vegas Raiders about a Maxx Crosby trade after his unexpected failed physical with the Baltimore Ravens?
Hard to rule anything out when Howie Roseman is lurking in the weeds.
