Now, this is something new. We know Jerry Jones loves to make blockbuster trades like the legendary move for Herschel Walker and more recent deals for Micah Parsons and George Pickens, but a 4.0 version to this? It’s so hard to imagine. Yet that’s the most competitive trait of the Dallas Cowboys’ everything: from GM to owner, Jerry Jones. This time around, Jones probably recognizes Maxx Crosby as the most popular player on the trade market. Which makes him a potential 4.0 target. Analysts are talking about them. Let’s see what else they are saying.

Dallas Cowboys seem best positioned to make a deal with Raiders edge rusher Maxx Crosby

According to CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones, the Chicago Bears are potentially dealing for the defensive end, but they are not the only ones. The Cowboys are “lurking” and they seem best positioned to do a deal if one is to be done. One that would make both Jones and Crosby happy? Now this is an NFL position Jones was in the news for all 2025 offseason: defensive end [Micah Parsons]. This could be a fluke. But what’s striking is Crosby’s contract details. He signed a three-year contract worth $106 million only last March. This keeps him through 2026. Yet there are rumors swirling that he does not wish to stay with the Raiders [he wants a change of scenery].Anyhow, the link connecting the two: Cowboys and Crosby, is their shared desire for a Super Bowl. Sports Illustrated’s Zach Dimmitt reports the 28-year-old DE won’t have a realistic chance at contending for a Lombardi Trophy if he stays with the Raiders for the foreseeable future [especially now when he’s at his prime]. Las Vegas likely understands this and could take it into account when considering trading him away before his value declines. It would also help them rebuild from scratch at that position, given they have a new head coach, Klint Kubiak, and possibly a rookie quarterback, Fernando Mendoza. Now, how does the five-time Pro Bowler fit into the Dallas picture? Let’s decipher.

Maxx Crosby’s connection to Jerry Jones’ Dallas Cowboys

Go back in time, the 6-foot-5, 255-pounder attended Colleyville Heritage High School in Texas, which is just 27 miles from Dallas. So, representing an NFL team that takes Crosby back to his childhood may count as a fruitful connection for a common goal: the Super Bowl. Jones is yearning for a Lombardi Trophy after crossing a 30-year drought. And, Maxx has never played in or won a Super Bowl. Over his 7 years in the NFL, he made one playoff appearance in 2021, facing Joe Burrow’s Cincinnati Bengals. But he lost that game.

Jerry Jones enjoys competition and NFC rival Chicago Bears is after Maxx Crosby

The Landry Hat’s Lior Lampert reports that Jones’ Cowboys are in a bidding war with NFC rival team, the Chicago Bears, for the top Las Vegas edge rusher. The Cowboys’ desperation could trump the Bears’ organizational leverage. Potential factors being Jerry Jones’ self-declared aggressiveness and pass rusher Donovan Ezeiruaku’s offseason hip surgery [to repair labrum tear].Lampert also stressed the fact that it’s becoming increasingly clear that the edge rusher won’t be returning to Tom Brady’s part-owned Las Vegas. The Eastern Michigan assistant GM has “exhausted all efforts” [finance] with the franchise. This is where the Cowboys and Bears come into the picture. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports Maxx may not be requesting a trade, but it will take a blockbuster offer to keep him away from his parent franchise. This is where Jones comes into play, all over again. In 2024, the Bravo Eugenia superyacht owner signed Dak Prescott to a record breaking $240 million contract. Looks like a 4.0 blockbuster trade is in the making… this time with Maxx Crosby.
