Gurgaon: Commuters travelling from NH-8 towards Cyber City, Golf Course Road and Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) could soon get relief, with an overpass proposed above the existing underpass near Cyber City Metro station and Gateway Tower.Under the proposal, an additional slab or overpass will be constructed to connect the NH-8 service road directly with the Cyber City service road, giving vehicles more space to make the turn and providing additional road capacity for traffic moving towards Cyber City and beyond. DLF has sought GMDA’s approval for the project.“We have received the proposal for construction of an overpass near the Cyber City metro station. The proposal will be examined,” a GMDA official said. The proposed overpass aims to improve traffic flow through the area. The current NH-8 service road is a single choke point for three overlapping traffic groups — Cyber City offices, local residential sectors, and SPR.Traffic approaching the junction comes from several direction. Vehicles arriving from Delhi use the service road to turn towards Cyber City, while vehicles coming from the IFFCO Chowk side take a U-turn before joining the same movement. These vehicles then converge near the metro station before dispersing towards different office buildings, Raghvendra Marg and other parts of the city. The turn itself has become a major constraint. Since the metro station and the existing road infrastructure occupy much of the available space, vehicles have a limited turning radius — in simple terms, there is not enough room for traffic to take the turn smoothly. Vehicles therefore have to slow down while negotiating the bend.Office rush hours add to the congestion. Along with through traffic, heavy pedestrian movement from the metro station increases activity in the area. Autorickshaws and e-rickshaws frequently stop for passengers, and pedestrians cross the road to reach offices and other destinations.Last year, DLF proposed constructing a new underpass along NH-8 to ease traffic flow from Moulsari Avenue towards Delhi. Under this, a two-lane underpass starting from Moulsari Avenue, crossing the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway, and heading towards Delhi was proposed. The proposal is yet to get a nod from govt.
