Runners are preparing to lace up their sneakers for Sunday’s Dick’s Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon. Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 has a look at the course and where runners will be traveling throughout the Steel City. The 26.2-mile race kicks off with the handcycle division at 6:50 a.m. on Liberty Avenue at 10th Street.Elite athletes will start their run at the same location at 7 a.m. with runners in corrals A through E following through 7:40 a.m.The UPMC Health Plan Pittsburgh Back Half Marathon begins in Shadyside at 9 a.m.CLICK HERE TO SEE A FULL MAP OF THE COURSEThe marathon will take runners through many of Pittsburgh’s iconic neighborhoods, starting downtown on Liberty Avenue. From Liberty Avenue, runners will make their way into Strip District and onto 30th Street. From 30th, athletes will head toward and cross the 16th Street Bridge and into the North Shore neighborhood.INTERACTIVE MAP THROUGH CONNECT BELOWOnce in North Shore, runners will pass both PNC Park and Acrisure Stadium before heading into the West End on Steuben Street, before landing on Carson Street and into South Side.From South Side, the trek continues over the Birmingham Bridge and into Oakland, passing right through the heart of the University of Pittsburgh campus on Forbes Avenue.That route will bring runners into Shadyside, past Mellon Park and into Point Breeze at mile 16.Once athletes pass Frick Art & Historical Center, they’ll travel up North Braddock Avenue and into Homewood. At mile 19, runners arrive in East Liberty before making their way to Highland Park and down North Negley Avenue toward Garfield and Friendship.Mile 22 brings runners back onto Liberty Avenue for the last few miles of the Pittsburgh Marathon, once again passing through the Strip District and into Downtown.The 26.2-mile trek ends with a finish line at the Boulevard of the Allies and Stanwix Street.
