LUCKNOW: Shooter Samrat Rana and cricketer Smriti Mandhana won big as they were awarded ‘Sportsperson of the Year’ at the Times of India Sports Awards (TOISA) 2025 on Saturday. In the para category, javelin thrower Sumit Antil and archer Sheetal Devi bagged the ‘Para Sportsperson of the Year’ honours at the ceremony in Lucknow.Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath bestowed the top honours on India’s sports stars at a glittering ceremony held at The Centrum in Lucknow.Two women’s cricket teams won the ‘Team of the Year’ award for their triumphs in the ICC ODI World Cup and the Blind Women’s T20 World Cup last year.FIDE Women’s World Cup winner Divya Deshmukh was honoured as the Emerging Player of the Year.Amol Muzumdar was named Coach of the Year for guiding the women’s cricket team to the maiden ICC ODI World Cup title, while Subhash Rana bagged the Para Coach of the Year award for the success of his ward, pistol shooter Samrat Rana.Among the other major winners were Shubman Gill and Deepti Sharma as Cricketers of the Year, and Neeraj Chopra and Rupal Chaudhary as Track & Field Athletes of the Year.It was the eighth edition of TOISA, celebrating the inspiring journeys and achievements of India’s finest athletes across multiple disciplines.This edition recognised athletes across more than 45 sporting categories, honouring performances during the evaluation period from January 1 to December 31, 2025. Abhinav Bindra, PR Sreejesh, Mithali Raj, Achanta Sharath Kamal, Leander Paes and Devendra Jhajharia formed the jury panel for this edition. Their experience, credibility and deep understanding of competition ensure that the honours truly reflect excellence on the global stage.
