U.S. House District 18 results: Latest from Republican and Democratic primaries

Date:

It’s a seat held by Rep. Christian Menefee, but also includes Rep. Al Green in a district that’s been drastically redrawn.

HOUSTON — One of the top races on the ballot is the one for U.S. House District 18. It’s the seat currently held by Christian Menefee after a special election in January.

It’s a seat that was formerly held by the late Sheila Jackson Lee and the late Sylvester Turner, both of whom died in office.

It’s also a district that was vastly changed in mid-decade Texas redistricting.

Three Democrats are running to take the seat:

  • Christian Menefee, current officeholder of U.S. House District 18 and former Harris County attorney
  • Al Green, current U.S. representative in Texas’ 9th Congressional District
  • Gretchen Brown, native Houstonian, born and raised in South Park
  • Amanda Edwards, the former councilmember, suspended her campaign, but remains on the ballot

Menefee took the lead Tuesday night as additional votes were counted.

Two Republican candidates are on the ballot:

  • Ronald Dwayne Whitfield
  • Elizabeth Vences, an accountant, according to her Facebook page
