Patna: The Vigilance Investigation Bureau (VIB) team arrested a revenue officer in a bribery case in Gopalganj district on Tuesday.The accused, Vijay Kumar Singh, revenue officer at the circle office, Barauli, was caught in his office while he was accepting Rs 6,000 as a bribe. The case stemmed from a complaint filed by one Shailendra Sah, son of late Ramashray Prasad and a resident of Bagheji under Barauli police station area.Shailendra alleged that the revenue officer demanded a bribe for processing the mutation (name transfer) of land. Following the complaint lodged at the Vigilance Investigation Bureau office in Patna, the team conducted a verification and found credible evidence of the demand for illegal gratification. Once the allegations were established, an FIR was registered at the vigilance police station on Jan 12.An investigation team under the leadership of Narendra Kumar, DSP (VIB), Patna, laid a trap and arrested the revenue officer while he was accepting the bribe in his office.“After preliminary questioning, the arrested revenue officer will be produced before the special court of vigilance in Muzaffarpur for further legal proceedings,” the DSP said.
