CHANDIGARH: Marking World Youth Skills Day, the Naveen Jindal Foundation organised a major employment and skill assessment drive at the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule International Skill Centre in Bahlolpur, where more than 40 candidates were selected for jobs at a steel manufacturing unit in Oman, while around 250 others secured placements with domestic employers. According to the office of Kurukshetra MP Naveen Jindal, around 220 shortlisted candidates were interviewed for positions at the Oman plant. Foundation representatives Dr Manish Mishra and Col Arun Chandel said more than 40 candidates have received confirmed offers so far, while the final tally is expected to cross 50 after the completion of screenings. The selected candidates are expected to travel to Oman within the next two weeks after completing documentation and other formalities. The employment drive also saw participation from several domestic companies. More than 450 candidates were interviewed for jobs across India, resulting in around 250 placements, the Foundation claimed. The Foundation also highlighted its overseas skilling programme, stating that 61 candidates, including 17 women, cleared the B1-level German language examination and are expected to travel to Germany later this year. During their apprenticeship, candidates are expected to earn more than Rs 1 lakh per month, with higher salaries after securing permanent positions. Foundation officials urged young people not to migrate abroad without acquiring relevant skills, saying global demand is increasingly focused on trained workers. Selected overseas candidates will undergo mandatory pre-departure orientation covering local culture, laws and workplace practices. The Foundation said it is also exploring government-to-government skill partnerships with Japan and Finland to expand overseas employment opportunities.
