WWE delivered an exciting episode of Friday Night SmackDown from the SAP Center in San Jose California this week. The show featured two former AEW stars making their official singles in-ring debut. It also featured Pat McAfee announcing a 25% discount offer on WrestleMania 42 Saturday tickets, followed by his beatdown on Cody Rhodes with the help of his ally Randy Orton. On the other hand, the event also saw some exciting matches, heated segments, and a thrilling main event encounter.
What happened in the opening segment of WWE SmackDown this week?
Rhea Ripley opened the show and addressed his WrestleMania 42 opponent, Jade Cargill. She and his cohorts, Michin and B-Fab, injured IYO Sky’s arm on RAW this week. IYO came out and said that she wanted to deal with them personally. This led Nick Aldis to make a singles match between IYO and Cargill for later that night.
Alexa Bliss vs. Bayley
Both Alexa Bliss and Bayley had their respective partners, Charlotte Flair and Lyra Valkyria, in their corners. The hometown crowd of Bayley was firmly in support of her as she battled Alexa Bliss in a singles match. Despite that, Flair provided a distraction towards the end, which was long enough for Bliss to roll up Bayley for the three count.
Royce Keys vs. Berto
This was Royce Keys’s official singles debut match in WWE. He battled Berto, who had his partner, Angel, in his corner. The match was a relatively short affair as Keys dominated and finished off Berto with a spinebuster to pick up the win.
Jacob Fatu vs. Tama Tonga
It was a clash between the two Samoan stars who delivered an exciting in-ring showdown. In the end, Jacob Fatu picked up the win after delivering a combination of a superkick and a Samoan drop, followed by a moonsault. Following that, Drew McIntyre attacked him, which continued outside the ring when he had him handcuffed to the ring post.
Matt Cardona vs. Trick Williams
Before the match began, Trick Williams and his ally, Lil Hatchy, had a heated exchange of words with Williams’ WrestleMania opponent, Sami Zayn. Following that, Matt Cardona came out for his match against Trick. The spectacular match saw Zayn take out Lil Hatchy, but that did not distract Williams. Instead, he delivered a Trick Shot on Cardona to pick up the win.
Danhausen vs. Kit Wilson
This was Danhausen’s debut match in WWE. He battled Kit Wilson, accompanied by The Miz, in a singles match. Towards the end, Danhausen cursed Kit Wilson, who was on the top rope, and a pyro went off right behind him, causing him to fall. Dan hit him with the big boot and then picked up the victory.
Jade Cargill vs. IYO Sky
This was the main event match of the night. Cargill and IYO Sky produced a highly stellar in-ring showdown. Following a hard-fought bout, the ending of the bout saw Cargill hit a Jaded on IYO to pick up the victory. She then brought a chair into the ring, but Rhea Ripley rushed down to the ring. Cargill chose to leave the ring to end the show. Also read: WWE WrestleMania 42 2026 Predictions: 5 huge surprise returns featuring The Rock, Undertaker & more
