Srinagar: J&K Police’s counter-intelligence wing raided 12 locations in multiple Kashmir districts on Tuesday and detained for questioning 12 terror suspects accused of radicalising youth, systematically attempting to disrupt public order, and spreading false narratives glorifying terrorism and terrorists. The raids were carried out in Srinagar, Baramulla, Anantnag, Pulwama, Kupwara, Budgam, and Shopian districts in connection with a case registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act at CIK police station. A special NIA court in Srinagar had issued the search warrants.A CIK statement said the agency had credible intelligence inputs indicating that some suspects in J&K had been exploiting platforms linked to mass media, social media, human rights advocacy, environmental causes and women empowerment as a cover to carry out activities gravely prejudicial to the sovereignty, integrity and security of India. CIK also claimed that some of the accused were allegedly in contact with Pakistan-based terror handlers using encrypted communication applications. The UT administration had earlier warned of strict action against those spreading “false narratives”.On Dec 11, J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha had said certain elements “from the dying terror ecosystem” were attempting to “spread misinformation or negative narratives against the country”. “We have not bought peace, but established peace. Those fanning separatism and threatening national unity will face the action as per the law,” Sinha had said.
