BALANGIR: : The death of a 33-year-old man has triggered controversy in Chimnibhati Para under the jurisdiction of Laxmijore Police Station in Balangir district after family members alleged that he died from a head injury inflicted by his wife with a mobile phone during a domestic argument. The deceased has been identified as Swapneswar Mishra (33), a resident of Chimnibhati Para. The incident reportedly took place on Saturday. According to police, Mishra was first taken to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) two days ago after falling seriously ill. His relatives alleged that his wife had struck him on the head with a mobile phone during an argument, causing a severe injury. Doctors provided preliminary treatment and discharged him. Mishra’s condition deteriorated again on Saturday, and he was readmitted to the DHH, where he died during treatment, police said. “The argument between the couple arose when the wife learned that her husband had lent his motorcycle to a friend. The argument turned violent, and the wife allegedly struck him on the head with a mobile phone in a fit of rage. He became unconscious and was rushed to the hospital,” a family member said. However, preliminary post-mortem findings suggest a different cause of death. Police said doctors found no external injury marks on the body. “The deceased had no external injuries, contrary to the family’s allegations. After conducting the autopsy, the doctor confirmed that the death was due to liver failure caused by excessive alcohol consumption. The detailed post-mortem report will be submitted tomorrow,” said Sanjay Kumar Sahoo, Inspector-in-Charge of Laxmijore Police Station. Police have registered a case based on the Medico-Legal Certificate (MLC) and a complaint lodged by the family. An investigation is underway, with officers collecting statements from family members and witnesses to ascertain the facts surrounding the argument.
